Dr. Rajagopal believes that making film is like making love. It is both a physical and metaphysical experience. He enters the mind and soul of his characters, letting them take over to form lives of their own. As forces of nature, they become part of his filmmaking process.
He is also a cinephile and has an equal passion for watching films. It is like voyeurism, or sex therapy. A good film draws you close and enraptures. It lingers. Intensely. It is sensual. It transports. It transforms. If you let it take over, it will show you the world.
As a filmmaker, Rajagopal has won the Singapore International Film Festivalʼs Special Jury Prize for three consecutive years. I CANʼT SLEEP TONIGHT (1995), THE GLARE (1996) and ABSENCE (1997) have been featured at international festivals around the world. Other works include BROTHER (1999), commissioned by the Singapore Arts Festival; and TIMELESS (2011), which won Best Cinematography and Best Editing at the Singapore Short Film Awards 2011. In 2016, his feature A YELLOW BIRD was selected by the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes.
